RIP Steve Jobs :(

In the middle of the night here in Germany, I found out that Steve Jobs passed away. I was shocked, but I knew it was coming. It is a sad day for technology, and a sad day for the world. Steve Jobs creations have inspired me to work hard, don’t settle and do what I love: graphic design. His creations have become a part of my everyday life. When I found about this sad news, I started to think how Apple products made an impact on my life.

When I was in elementary school, I played learning games on those old school Macintosh. It was the first computer I ever used. When I was in junior high, I learned how to type on a Macintosh. When I was in high school, my school was the first to lend MacBooks to students. I didn’t learn so much with that though because I spent my time iChatting in class and playing that animal zoo game hahah. But still! The MacBook was supposed to help learning easier in class instead of by the books. I of course like to learn the old fashion way…but it definitely made my life easier by typing than handwriting the countless essays in my AP classes.

I can remember my very first apple product: the iPod. Pure genius. Who would’ve thought to put MP3s on a little device rather than a CD?! I remember back in my college days I used to rock my iPod walking to class or working out at the gym. My iPod saved me from boredom plus I didn’t have to carry a bulky ass cd player that would skip haha.

The next product I bought was the MacBook back in 2009. My MacBook is my life. And my life is graphic design. Working on a Mac has made my life so much easier and I thank Steve Jobs for creating the best laptop there is. I have gone through 2 laptops (Toshiba and Dell) in 3 years. And I’ve had my MacBook for almost 3 years now…quality at it’s best. Not only that, he saved me $100 bucks just for being a college student haha.

And last but not least, the iPhone. My iPhone is a part of me and it’s amazing how this product has on impact on people. I feel empty without my iPhone. I swear, I catch myself checking if I have my phone with me every hour. Without my iPhone, I wouldn’t be able to stay connected via FaceTime, chat, or even blog at this very moment! I barely bought the iPhone back in 2010, but oh man…major upgrade from my crappy phone. Again, the iPhone had made my life easier especially with the calendar app because I’m forgetful sometimes. His work was all about design, quality and convenience. I met a person who worked directly with Steve Jobs when I was in line for the iPhone 4 last year. The engineer said he was mean and an asshole, but he’s only like that to push his workers hard to create the perfect product. He respected Steve Jobs. And in life, you sometimes gotta be an asshole to get things perfect and done your way.

Steve Jobs changed the world and accomplished so much in the 56 years of his life. I know I probably won’t change the world with my graphic design work, but just like Steve Jobs, I just hope to inspire others with my work. To enjoy life, you really gotta do what you love or you’ll just be unhappy.

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.” -Steve Jobs

RIP Steve Jobs. You will forever be a legacy. Thank you for revolutionizing the world.
